Yarmouth 250th Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada is celebrating its 250th year of community – and we’d like you to join in the festivities. Bear River 400th First Vines Throughout 2011, Bear River will be celebrating 400 years since the first vines in North America were planted here, in this gentle valley. In spring 1611, the famous apothecary Louis Hebert, took refuge from a storm at the Bear River Miq’ maq encampment. While here, Hebert discovered that this valley offered the perfect conditions for the planting of French grape vines. Today, award-winning wineries and spectacular vineyards still grace these hills.
