Destination Southwest Nova Association (DSWNA) is an industry-led, not-for-profit tourism management organization.  We exist so that tourism in Southwest Nova Scotia remains a viable and sustainable industry; serving visitors with excellence. 

We are currently seeking highly skilled individuals to fill the positions below.  The desired individuals must be motivated, energetic, knowledgeable of the tourism industry, as well as thrive on challenges and understand the importance of working as a team.

Positions Available

1. Marketing & Sales Director (Full-time Position)

Duties:

  • Develop DSWNA’s annual marketing programs, including a detailed annual marketing plan and budget;
  • Work independently and within a team environment to establish marketing strategies that meet organizational objectives;
  • Evaluate market conditions and implement marketing plan changes as required.

Education:

University degree required.  Concentration in Marketing, Business, or Communications preferred.

Special Skills:

Background in a not-for-profit destination marketing organization and knowledge of the Tourism Industry in Nova Scotia an asset.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Power Point and content management software;
  • Proven attention to detail;
  • Excellent sales skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects at once;
  • Demonstrated track record of success and established relationships;
  • Good organizational and time management skills;
  • Excellent listening and presentation skills;
  • Team-oriented.

2. Membership & Regional Sales Coordinator (2) (One year, Contract Part-time Position)

Overview:

The Membership & Regional Sales Coordinators will assist the Director of Marketing & Sales in implementing the membership aspects of the Marketing Opportunities Program and provide a progressively positive member experience.

Duties:

These positions are primarily responsible for:

  • Coordinating membership functions and operations, including the creation and distribution of new member kits, membership renewal cards, and membership retention campaigns;
  • Develop initiatives/activities to grow the membership in their regions;
  • Develop an ongoing, positive relationship with Members and prospects;
  • Work closely with the DSWNA team.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Power Point;
  • Proven attention to detail;
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills;
  • Flexible and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Ability to maintain a consistently positive outlook towards all members and staff.

3. Democracy/ DSWNA Ambassador (Seasonal, Full-time Position)

DSWNA, in partnership with Democracy 250 will be hiring one Democracy/ DSWNA Ambassador for each of the three tourism regions within Southwest Nova Scotia:

I.  Fundy Shore & Annapolis Valley

II.  Yarmouth & Acadian Shores

III.  South Shore

Ambassadors will be employed from May to October 2008.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills;
  • Flexible and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Knowledge of the Southwest Nova Scotia tourism regions;
  • Ability to maintain a consistently positive outlook towards all members and staff;
  • Bilingualism is an asset;
  • Bilingualism is required for the Ambassador to Yarmouth & Acadian Shores position;
  • Valid driver's license.
