A Bouquet of Gardens

Amble through our beautiful gardens, and catch a glimpse of our history as you refresh your senses. The crown jewel of our gardening heritage is the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, where you can enjoy 10 acres of theme gardens, including a collection of over 2000 roses planted in the form of a Rose Maze.

Visit the Kentville Agricultural Centre to witness the blooming of the rhododendron gardens, featuring many varieties developed at the station. Gardeners from Liverpool to Yarmouth proudly refer to their area as the “Banana Belt” of the province, with milder climates meaning that some less hardy perennials, trees and shrubs will grow in their gardens.

Ever see a traditional Acadian potager, a garden of mixed vegetables, culinary and medicinal herbs, and ornamentals? Visit the gardens at Grand Pré National Historic Site near Wolfville or the Acadian Museum and Archives in West Pubnico to see how the pre-Expulsion Acadians would have planted and tended their kitchen gardens.

Stroll through the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens at Acadia University, where you’ll find a magnificent collection of indigenous plants established in their natural habitats. Hike our many trails for a glimpse of old growth trees, pristine wildflowers, and waterfowl sanctuaries, or visit our beaches and savour the fragrance of the wild salt-water roses (Rosa rugosa).
