As the leaves turn from deep green to bright orange, yellow and fiery red Southwest Nova Scotia takes on a whole new quality; it’s harvest time and as usual, we Nova Scotian’s celebrate! Visit us as our famous Pumpkin People gather in droves in Kentville during our Pumpkin People Celebrations. Wander through Mahone Bay during the Great Scarecrow Festival and see all of our local creations.
As our Farm Markets overflow with the fruits of our harvests, try our famous apples, our tasty potatoes, peas, carrots and try our “hodge podge,” a local dish made with fresh vegetables. Many of our farmers have been busy putting together giant mazes in hay fields and invite you to come and search your way through them.
October brings the Pumpkin Regatta in Windsor where you’ll enjoy a parade, various activities and perhaps the most exciting event of all, the annual pumpkin race, where contestants race giant decorated pumpkins across Lake Pezaquid.
Fall is one of the most treasured times to explore the region and bask in its changing beauty. The many parks and trails are perfect spots to take in this natural splendour.
