The Hants Fundy Shore

On the southern shore of the Minas Basin, the Hants Shore is one of Nova Scotia's best kept maritime secrets. From Brooklyn along the Hants Shore are remarkable rock formations on the banks of the Kennetcook River that give way to lush dykelands protected by earthwork dykes first built by Acadian settlers. As the tide goes out you can walk on the bottom of the Bay of Fundy.

  • Celebrate the Age of Sail and the shipbuilding history of the Minas Basin and Planters who settled the area after the Acadians at the Avon River Heritage Museum in Newport Landing.
  • The Cheverie Crossway is a picnic area and interpretation centre right on the tidal flats.
  • At the Walton Lighthouse, explore walking trails, have a picnic or climb to the top of the lighthouse.
  • The route continues to Burntcoat Head Park, where the Guinness Book of Records reports the world's highest tides at 16.3 metres (53.5 feet), and Maitland, Nova Scotia's first Heritage Conservation Village
